We had an unprecedented hail storm yesterday. Almost all of my plants are destroyed.

I am nursing four plants back to life. I guess this is why each plant expresses so many seeds.

The title of my blog is too long–at least when browsing with FIrefox on Ubuntu Hardy Heron; but I chose it because it is about as terse a statement as to why I garden (and blog) as I could come up with.

My first recollection of science was when, in third grade, we planted sunflower seeds and began logging their growth, keeping track of weather, and then trying to do some rudimentary statistical analysis on the aggregate data. I was hooked–on math and science and on gardening–ever since.

Todd managed to push the right button when he sent me some seeds at the same time as I was making my plans to leave the One Laptop per Child Association. Sugar Labs and my garden, where I spend my time these days, are both places for doing and learning.
